Stay Healthy
What is the Stay Healthy Program?
Kenai Local Food Connection developed the Stay Healthy Food Program to bring nourishing local foods to community members in need. We partner with folks at The Goods + Sustainable Grocery to source local ingredients for the program. Each week, participating families receives a bag full of local produce, or organic alternatives when local produce is not available. Stay Healthy boxes also include fresh locally baked bread, Alaskan or organic dry goods, pickled vegetables, hot soup, recipes, and educational materials. This program has successfully brought nourishing food to households on the Kenai Peninsula since 2020.
In 2026, the Kenai Local Food Connection is partnering with the Salamatof Tribe to provide Stay Healthy food boxes to 22 low-income tribal elders for 16 weeks from January to April. Participants receive a weekly food box containing soups, breads, ferments, staples, fresh produce, mushrooms and herbs. The program aims to foster a deeper connection to our local food sources and share healthy ways to prepare food.
